More Information
Name/Title: Kevin Ramsey Name of School/District: South Lemhi School District #292 State: ID Phone Number: 2087682441 Email: kpramsey@leadoreschool.org Number of K-8 Students: 80 Number of 9-12 Students: 23 # of Students & Grade(s) to Participate in Program: 40 grades 3-6 % of Students on Free/Reduced Lunch: 67% Select Programs of Interest:: Robotics Is Board approval required to implement a new program?: No How will these programs benefit your school/district?: This program will introduce student to a variety of STEM disciplines that we struggle to accommodate in our small schools. There are no/little STEM occupations in our rural community so this will be a brand new experience for our students that is needed and necessary for good education. Briefly describe your STEM/CTE goals and current programming.: The mission of the Leadore School is to prepare students for college and career. Over the past 12 years, the staff of the entire district have worked to bring STEM experiences to our students in the forms of day programs and limited/temporary projects. There is no formal/extended curriculum for our students to truly grasp the concepts of robotics, coding, or activities associated with STEM in the regard. Why should you be selected for this program?: We feel that our size and financial constraints should not be the determining factors for our students achievement. Because we don't offer a full unit/curriculum of STEM/MakerSpace to our students, we know that this grant will help us to enlarge our vision and give our student a more competitive advantage once they leave our small community. How will you implement the program, if selected?: Since we currently don't have any type of STEM program we are unfamiliar with implementation or how we would accomplish this task. However, because we are a small district with an average of 1:6 teacher/student ratio, we plan to be as direct as we are able to integrate this wonderful program into our daily/weekly routine. We need a release for our students so they have an opportunity to participate in kinetic learning as much or more than just traditional book study. We want to apply what we learn. What problem/need does this grant address for your school/district?: In recent years there has been a push for academic increase as more and more special programs like music and vocational class have fallen to budgets or lacking demand. We believe that this is mindset is detrimental to the educational experience. For the past 14 years, our distinct has worked to introduce programs to no avail. We attribute these failures to lacking curriculum/resources, knowledgeable staff, and lacking directives. Because of recent changes in administration, budget, and staffing, our district is poised and ready to integrate STEM into our system. Can you include this program in your current or future budget?: Yes. Although we are unsure of the total costs of this program. We will make an attempt to cover any needs once we understand more about the program.
