Dale Harwood visited Leadore School on Monday, September 28. He spoke with Mrs. McRea’s high school Art class and Mrs. Ayers’ 8th grade Intro to Ag class. During his visit, he stressed the importance of hands-on classes like shop and leather carving. Mr. Hardwood discussed the past and future of leather carving, with an optimistic view of today’s artists. He brought along a miniature saddle that the students declared to be “awesome”, and they marveled at the intricate detail he could get on such small floral carving. Though he has retired from saddle-making, Mr. Hardwood still helps young people interested in leather carving, and offered wonderful advice and encouragement to the students who were lucky enough to visit with him. His visit was made possible by his daughter, Tina Orme, who is working with the Leadore School as we renew our accreditation.
